1. Could you begin by introducing ER Hospitality and explaining how your portfolio, including Veranda and Heritage Resorts, captures the essence of Mauritian hospitality?
Rogers Hospitality is part of the larger ER Group, one of the biggest conglomerates in Mauritius with activities across multiple sectors. We represent the hospitality branch, which began over 40 years ago with the first Veranda hotel in Grand Baie. It started small but has evolved into a diverse portfolio today.
We operate through two main divisions, with Heritage Resorts representing our five-star segment. All properties are located within the Bel Ombre domain, in the south of Mauritius, one of the island’s last unspoilt regions, renowned for its authenticity, nature, and sense of place.
At the heart of the domain are Heritage Le Telfair, our five-star luxury resort and a proud member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and Heritage Awali, each offering a distinct architectural identity and guest experience. The estate is further enriched by C Beach Club, a coastal chic lifestyle venue, and Le Château de Bel Ombre, our historic, fine-dining gastronomic restaurant.
Bel Ombre is also a premier golf destination, home to two championship courses: Le Château Golf Course and La Réserve Golf Links, the first contemporary links course in the Indian Ocean. La Réserve Golf Links has received multiple international awards since its opening and has recently hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a flagship international tournament on the DP World Tour, further reinforcing its global stature.
Completing the experience are Heritage The Villas, offering privacy and exclusivity, as well as a nature reserve dedicated to walking trails, picnics, and eco-adventures, all seamlessly integrated within the same destination.
Meanwhile, the Veranda Resorts are our collection of boutique three- and four-star hotels around Mauritius. Each one embodies the island’s spirit, human-scale, friendly, and integrated into the local community. They are designed to make guests “Feel Mauritius, Feel Mauritian”.
We also manage leisure attractions such as Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark, the island’s most visited natural site, World of Seashells Museum, and even operate quick-service restaurants like Ocean Basket and Domino’s Pizza in Mauritius. Altogether, ER Hospitality employs around 2,200 people, all dedicated to creating authentic and meaningful moments for our guests, or as we call them, Mauritian moments.
2. ER Hospitality has built a strong reputation for creating authentic and memorable guest experiences. What makes your service philosophy unique across your properties?
Our philosophy is deeply rooted in community connection. Each resort is closely linked to its surrounding village, many of our employees live nearby and have been with us for over a decade.
For instance, at Heritage Bel Ombre, we run a Marine Education Centre in collaboration with NGOs to preserve coral reefs and marine biodiversity. Guests can join educational programs to learn about the lagoon’s ecosystem and our coral restoration projects.
We integrate local experiences everywhere, from gastronomy that highlights Mauritian ingredients to cultural exchanges. At Chamarel, we produce our own Café de Chamarel and Mauritian cacao, offering plantation tours and tastings. These initiatives make guests feel part of the island’s fabric, while our team members find pride and purpose in sharing their culture.
Ultimately, Mauritian hospitality is about warmth, sincerity, and genuine human connection, not formality, but authenticity.
3. Heritage Resorts is home to some of the island's most exclusive stays and experiences. How do you balance luxury with the warmth and authenticity of Mauritian culture?
Luxury for us is not about gold-plated bathrooms or extravagance. It’s about space, serenity, and a connection to nature. In Bel Ombre, luxury is found in the lush gardens, open beaches, and the sense of calm.
We focus on slow travel, where time and space are the true luxuries. Guests can walk for 40 minutes along the beach without interruption or immerse themselves in wellness activities like yoga in the nature reserve. It’s refined simplicity, understated, elegant, and connected to the land.
4. La Réserve Golf Links has placed Mauritius on the global golf tourism map. With golfing holidays booming in the UAE, how is Heritage Golf Club tailoring experiences for visitors seeking world-class leisure and exclusivity?
Golfers in Mauritius enjoy two very different courses: the Le Château Golf Course, which has been named the Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Course nine times, and La Réserve Golf Links, the only links-style course in Mauritius, co-designed by Open champion Louis Oosthuizen.
Guests can choose between different accommodation styles, villas for privacy or the five-star Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort for full service. We also offer equipment rental, professional coaching at our golf academy, and easy access to five courses in the southwest of the island.
Every December, we host the DP World Tour’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, the island’s largest sporting event, which reaches over 500 million households globally.
5. Wellness travel is one of the fastest-growing segments in tourism. How are your resorts integrating wellness, nature, and mindfulness into the guest journey?
We just completed a major renovation of our Heritage Awali Spa, where guests can design personalized wellness programs. Activities include yoga, aqua yoga, meditation on the deck of Le Château de Bel Ombre, and wellness walks through the Bel Ombre Nature Reserve.
Mrs. Anaick Leclezio, our Group Head of Wellness, ensures each property incorporates elements of Mauritian culture. We work with sustainable brands such as Thalion (marine algae-based), as well as local essential oils and traditional therapies.
Wellness here is holistic, it extends beyond the spa to include horseback riding on the beach, silent walks, healthy cuisine, and time spent in nature.
6. How does ER Hospitality celebrate the island's diverse culinary heritage while appealing to international tastes?
Our culinary philosophy is based on sustainable gastronomy and local creativity. Each year, we host the Sustainable Gastronomy Week, inviting Michelin-starred chefs to work alongside our Mauritian teams. Together they craft menus using local ingredients, marlin, tropical vegetables, local game, while reducing imported products like salmon or scallops.
This farm-to-fork and Indian Ocean sourcing approach honors local farmers and showcases Mauritius’ authentic flavors while remaining innovative and refined.
7. Digital tools and personalization are transforming hospitality worldwide. How are you using technology to enhance guest convenience and engagement?
We’ve introduced our own guest app that provides information on activities, dining, and wellness. Guests can message their butler, book experiences, or request beach service with a simple tap.
In-room smart TVs and digital channels display sustainability initiatives and resort information. However, we ensure technology supports, not replaces, human interaction. The heart of Mauritian hospitality is people, so we balance convenience with warmth.
8. Sustainability and community involvement are central to responsible tourism. How is Rogers Hospitality ensuring that its growth benefits both people and the environment?
Sustainability has been a core pillar of our group for over a decade. Our program, Now for Tomorrow, outlines five key impact zones: biodiversity, circular economy, inclusive development, local sourcing, and cultural preservation.
We actively protect marine ecosystems through coral restoration, promote local agriculture in Bel Ombre, and support village initiatives, from youth boxing clubs to environmental education.
In 2023, Bel Ombre was recognized among the Top 100 Green Destinations in the World. The region borders Mauritius’ only indigenous forest, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, home to 80% of the island’s remaining endemic species. Our goal is to protect this heritage while offering guests the chance to experience it responsibly.
9. Finally, how would you summarize the essence of ER Hospitality?
We go beyond resorts, we offer territorial experiences. Heritage Bel Ombre is not just a place to stay; it’s a living ecosystem where history, gastronomy, nature, and community coexist.
Our guests leave with more than memories of a beautiful beach, they carry with them authentic Mauritian moments that connect them to the island’s people, culture, and spirit.
