1. Could you begin by introducing Hyvec Group and its evolution into one of Mauritius’s most dynamic and diversified business groups?

For over three decades, Hyvec Group has been a driving force in Mauritius’s economic landscape. What began as a construction company in 1993 has evolved into a diversified business group with activities spanning Construction & Property Development, Retail & Distribution, Finance & Investment, Leisure & Hospitality, and Food.
Our success is built on a foundation of hard work, integrity, and innovation. Over the years, we have consistently anticipated market needs, adapted to new realities, and seized opportunities to create sustainable value. Today, we employ over 2,000 people and maintain a strong presence not only in Mauritius but also in the Indian Ocean and the Middle East.

2. Hyvec has made its mark in sectors ranging from construction and real estate to hospitality and renewable energy. What has driven this diversification strategy, and how do you identify new growth opportunities?

Our diversification strategy has always been guided by long-term vision and a deep understanding of the Mauritian and regional markets. We identify growth opportunities by observing shifts in consumer behaviour, economic trends, and emerging technologies.
Diversification for us is not simply about expansion — it’s about resilience. Each cluster complements the other, creating synergies that strengthen the Group’s overall performance.

Our Retail & Distribution cluster is among our fastest-growing pillars. Hyvec proudly represents a portfolio of world-class brands that speak for themselves, from luxury and lifestyle icons such as Ralph Lauren, Montblanc, Armani and Tommy Hilfiger, to fashion and premium retail leaders such as Calvin Klein, Hackett London and GANT, as well as home & design excellence with Kohler, and global F&B powerhouse Burger King

Whether in High-end retail, property development, or hospitality, our goal is to deliver quality, value, and innovation.

3. The construction and infrastructure sector remains a pillar of Mauritius’s development. How has Hyvec contributed to shaping the country’s urban and industrial landscape?

Construction is part of our DNA. Through Hyvec Construction and Hyvec Properties, we have contributed to some of Mauritius’s most significant infrastructure and real estate projects. From public infrastructure and social housing developments to luxury villas and commercial high-rises, our projects have redefined the country’s urban and industrial landscape.

Our collaboration with international specialists such as Stefanutti Stocks has strengthened our technical capabilities, enabling us to deliver complex, large-scale projects with precision and excellence. Today, we are simultaneously undertaking the construction of four hotels across the island, including a prestigious partnership with Ritz-Carlton, part of the Marriott Group, one of the most renowned hotel brands in the world. In addition to the Ritz-Carlton development, we have recently signed an agreement with the Marriott Group for the opening of Courtyard by Marriott Ebène, a high-class business lifestyle hotel in Ebène.

When all these projects are completed, Hyvec will stand among the largest hotel groups in Mauritius, combining world-class standards with Mauritian craftsmanship. Among our other key projects are the One&Only Le St Géran villas, high-rise developments in Ebène and Port-Louis, and the upcoming WESS Mall in Rose-Belle, a dynamic retail destination that will set a new benchmark for shopping and entertainment in the region.

4. Hyvec is also known for its focus on innovation and quality. How are you integrating new technologies, sustainability standards, and smart engineering into your projects?

At Hyvec, innovation and quality are at the core of our operations. We continuously invest in advanced construction techniques, digital tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), and modern project management systems to enhance precision, efficiency, and delivery timelines.

We are progressively integrating sustainability principles across our projects, with a focus on energy efficiency, responsible sourcing, and long-term durability. Our partnerships with international specialists also allow us to adopt proven global practices that meet evolving standards in engineering and environmental performance.

Ultimately, our objective is to deliver projects that are both technically advanced and responsibly built — ensuring lasting value for our clients and the communities we serve.

5. Mauritius is increasingly viewed as a hub for investment and logistics in the Indian Ocean region. How does Hyvec position itself within this broader economic ecosystem?

Mauritius has a strategic advantage, it is stable, well-governed, and ideally located as a gateway to Africa and Asia. We see ourselves as a key contributor to this vision.
Hyvec has built strong relationships with international partners and continues to invest in projects that reinforce Mauritius’s position as a regional business hub. Through our construction, investment, and hospitality activities, we actively support national development goals and promote Mauritius as a trusted destination for investors and entrepreneurs.

6. Beyond business performance, Hyvec has shown a strong commitment to community empowerment and youth development. Could you tell us more about your social impact initiatives?

I believe that true success must be shared. Over the years, we have provided career opportunities and professional training to help young Mauritians build meaningful futures. We also engage in charitable activities that support vulnerable groups and promote social inclusion. Our employees play a key role in these efforts, reflecting the Group’s belief that progress should always go hand in hand with responsibility.

7. Many Mauritian companies are expanding regionally and looking toward Africa and the Middle East. Do you see international expansion as part of Hyvec’s next chapter?

Absolutely. We already have a presence in the Middle East and the Indian Ocean region through our retail activities, and we see tremendous potential in expanding our footprint further into Africa. Our strategy is to bring Mauritian know-how and our unique blend of innovation and reliability to new markets, while forming strong local partnerships. We are exploring opportunities in construction, property investment, and hospitality, sectors where we have proven expertise and competitive advantage.

8. What is your perspective on the government’s infrastructure vision and how private sector players like Hyvec can contribute to achieving national development goals?

The government’s infrastructure vision is both ambitious and essential to Mauritius’s long-term growth. As a private sector leader, I believe our role is to complement and accelerate this progress by bringing efficiency, expertise, and innovation to the table.

Hyvec has already contributed concretely to this national agenda through several major projects, including the construction of 750 social housing units under government contracts and the Melrose Prison complex, which demonstrates our technical capabilities in delivering large-scale, high-security infrastructure.

These projects reflect our commitment to national development and our ability to meet complex requirements with professionalism and precision. We firmly believe that partnerships between the public and private sectors are key to creating sustainable infrastructure and improving quality of life across Mauritius.

9. How do you see collaboration opportunities between Mauritian companies like Hyvec and investors or developers from the UAE and the wider Gulf region?

There is strong alignment between Mauritius and the UAE in terms of vision, ambition, and values. The Gulf region has always been perceived as a key partner for us, and I believe there is much room for deeper collaboration particularly in infrastructure, tourism, and trade.
Mauritius offers a secure and business-friendly environment, while the Gulf brings capital, innovation, and global reach. Together, we can build projects that are both commercially successful and transformative for the region.

10. Finally, what message would you like to share with Khaleej Times readers about Mauritius’s potential as a resilient, innovative, and forward-looking business destination?

Mauritius is more than a tropical paradise. It is a thriving, resilient economy that embraces innovation and diversity. Our people are skilled, multilingual, and entrepreneurial. The country offers political stability, strong governance, and a robust financial system, making it one of the most attractive investment destinations in the Indian Ocean.
At Hyvec, we are proud to be part of this success story. We remain committed to building a sustainable, inclusive future and to positioning Mauritius as a beacon of opportunity and progress in the region.
